Ruston Paving President - Don ClarkRuston Paving is proud announce that Don Clark has been named its next president. Don previously held the position of the company’s chief operating officer and will continue to provide day-to-day leadership in his new role.

Mark Ruston, formerly the president and chief executive officer, will retain the duties of CEO, allowing him to focus on the strategic direction of the business.

Ruston Paving was contracted by Dawn Homes, the owners of Village Green Apartments, to mill off 4″ of the existing pavement and install a new surface course of asphalt at one of the complex’s parking lots. However, once the existing material was removed, it was apparent that the subbase was too soft, which was the cause of the pavement’s failure. Dawn Homes was already familiar with the benefits of full depth reclamation, having used the process on one of its other properties. So when FDR was proposed, they agreed to that viable option. Now that the subbase has been stabilized and the new asphalt layer installed, the parking lot will provide years of value to Dawn Homes and the residents at Village Green.

As part of our continued commitment to safety, Ruston Paving is rolling out a Safety Pledge that is being signed by all employees in each division. This Safety Pledge will then be displayed in our respective offices to encourage employees to always Think Safety.

In signing the Safety Pledge, each employee vows to:

  • Never compromise my own safety or the safety of my co-workers to get the job done.
  • Actively look for hazards, promptly report them and take appropriate action to alleviate the issue.
  • Be a good safety role model for my co-workers, friends and family even when off the job.

Frustration To Satisfaction on 03-24-17Last week, Ruston Paving was working for a local grading company that was widening a road in Graham, NC. At 5:25 this past Friday evening, a frustrated homeowner submitted a message via the Contact Form of our website. It seems this homeowner was tired of looking at her mailbox on the ground and restricted access to her driveway due to the road construction.

Even though these issues were the responsibility of the grading contractor (our prominent blue colored equipment can be misleading!), the message was quickly passed to Mark Rogers, our NC regional manager, who showed an exemplary level of service. Mark immediately contacted the homeowner to fully understand the problem, then called the grading company that was still on site to get the problem resolved. The grading company sent a crew to the home right away, installed the mailbox and smoothed the transition from the driveway to the road. After the grading company called Mark to say the work was complete, Mark called the homeowner back to be sure they were satisfied. All of this happened in the span of one hour, which prompted the homeowner’s follow-up message the next morning!!

As the homeowner so succinctly wrote, “that is some stellar customer service!” It’s no coincidence that kind of swift action and level of service allows us to stand head and shoulders above our competition.

Our MechanicsThe mechanics at Ruston Paving are highly valued members of our team. As you can see in the photos here, mechanics in all of our divisions are still working tirelessly to maintain and improve our equipment. While most of our crew members have a lull in activity during winter months, our mechanics are quite the opposite. They are still hard at work prepping our equipment, trucks, and trailers for the upcoming season and ensuring our crews have safe and well maintained iron to get them through the upcoming season.

We can’t thank them enough for their diligent work!

Destiny USA (paving)The holiday season hustle and bustle didn’t deter the crews in our Syracuse division as we paved some critical areas at Destiny USA, the sixth largest mall in America. Ruston Paving was called upon by Riverside Site and Landscape Co to complete the work and you can imagine that traffic control was of the utmost importance. We are very proud to say that the work was completed with nary an incident!

Hats off to all our employees who worked so tirelessly to keep themselves and the public safe during this project.
