Frustration To Satisfaction on 03-24-17Last week, Ruston Paving was working for a local grading company that was widening a road in Graham, NC. At 5:25 this past Friday evening, a frustrated homeowner submitted a message via the Contact Form of our website. It seems this homeowner was tired of looking at her mailbox on the ground and restricted access to her driveway due to the road construction.

Even though these issues were the responsibility of the grading contractor (our prominent blue colored equipment can be misleading!), the message was quickly passed to Mark Rogers, our NC regional manager, who showed an exemplary level of service. Mark immediately contacted the homeowner to fully understand the problem, then called the grading company that was still on site to get the problem resolved. The grading company sent a crew to the home right away, installed the mailbox and smoothed the transition from the driveway to the road. After the grading company called Mark to say the work was complete, Mark called the homeowner back to be sure they were satisfied. All of this happened in the span of one hour, which prompted the homeowner’s follow-up message the next morning!!

As the homeowner so succinctly wrote, “that is some stellar customer service!” It’s no coincidence that kind of swift action and level of service allows us to stand head and shoulders above our competition.

Christmas Greeting

As a way to say thank you to our employees and begin the home stretch of 2016, our Ruston Paving offices have started hosting year end events. Ruston Paving’s Durham division took the lead and hosted a surprise employee appreciation cookout in conjunction with the annual turkey distribution last Tuesday evening. The looks on the faces of the field crews as they came in for the evening to a hot meal and hearty ‘thank you for all you do’ was priceless! Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a great success!

In 2011, flooding from Tropical Storm Lee caused significant damage to the Owego-Apalachin School District. Consequently, FEMA announced the approval of $23 million in funding to relocate its schools to a less flood-prone area and construct the administrative, maintenance, and storage buildings that were badly damaged. One of the final steps was to reconstruct the roadway through the school’s campus, which was originally budgeted to cost $800,000. By utilizing the Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) process, Ruston Paving’s Syracuse division was awarded the job and saved the district $300,000.

We were able to coordinate and present an on-site FDR seminar with the reclamation work, which was attended by school officials, local companies and municipalities. WICZ, the local FOX affiliate, even came out to do a TV news story about the project.

Happy Labor DayAccording to the US Department of Labor, Labor day was first celebrated in 1882 and  ”is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”

Our employees certainly deserve that tribute! It is due to their efforts that Ruston Paving has grown to be the strong respectable company it is today. So to our employees, however you chose to spend your holiday weekend, please do it safely as you are truly our greatest asset!
